PSIMET Custom Bicycle Wheels

My name is Robert Curtis and I am PSIMET. At least that was my handle in college and later on internet forums for bicycles. It has then grown into our brand.  PSIMET is custom bicycle wheels – wheels made for the individual and purpose – not for distributors and catalogs full of bloated margins and sub-par product. You’re here because someone sent you here when you asked about where to get the best wheels.  It seems that with each wheelset we establish yet another lifetime customer.

There is simply no replacement for quality wheels. I suspect you’ve come to the same realization. You’ve probably learned that getting your hands on a quality wheelset can be a bit tricky, if not daunting. With all the options out there to chose from, it can be overwhelming. We are here to take the stress out of your wheel selection process.

If you have any questions, please feel free to email me through our request a quote page or directly at info@psimet.com but first, take a look at the FAQ section to see if your question can be answered there.

Building Bicycle Wheels

psimet-tensionmeter

Building wheels is a craft that requires knowledge and patience. I am an engineer by trade, and the product of a long line of applied mechanics and artist as well as engineers. As such I have the innate mechanical aptitude and attention to technical detail necessary for quality wheel building. I also have the artistic passion to stand by what I believe and to put a bit of myself into every wheel.

I have found that what sets us apart from other builders has to do with how we set all of the components in the wheel system.  It results in builds that last. As far as the builds that are done by your local wrench in the back of the shop aren’t even close.  They could be a decent wheel builder but they just simply aren’t doing it day in and day out. Talent doesn’t make up for a lack of practice and repetition.

As we have grown I have found I have been able to slowly bring on others who help with the process. These are individuals who came to PSIMET saying, “I’ve been building wheels for years in the shops I have worked at,” and within a year start saying, “wow…I didn’t know what I was doing back then.” To date we have 1 other “builder” or finisher of wheels outside of myself.  Leah Sanda.  Another engineer (structural) by training

At PSIMET we can build you a high quality carbon fiber or aluminum wheelset that fits your needs. We do not make compromises; every component we (because this is a collaboration between you and I) decide to use is of the highest quality.

  • Do you need a light-weight wheel? We can make that happen.
  • Do you need an aerodynamic wheel? We can make that happen.
  • Do you need an all-around wheel? We can make that happen.
  • Do you need a Powertap? We can make that happen.

It is our job to make sure that the wheelset you end up with is not only the wheelset you want but that it also performs at the highest level; at or beyond your expectations.

At PSIMET I like to say, “roll your own” because until you do, you will always be riding a set of wheels that were designed and built with someone else in mind.

Patrons of the Sport

There are many areas of cycling that need a boost and those who choose to work for change can pick any one of them. At PSIMET we chose Women’s cycling. We equalized and reversed our payouts years ago. We’ve identified key talent and given them support and opportunities to develop. We’ve supported local and national efforts to both improve the women’s side of the sport and to continually re-start the conversation.
At PSIMET we live the sport. We attend the city council meetings, mark the courses, set up the tents at 5 in the morning in the driving rain. We put on races (16 in last 4 years), sponsor racers, and support races (buying expo spots and bringing racers). We’re always that place to get out of the cold or warm up when you find yourself without a team. Never fail – we are there.

A dollar spent with us is a dollar invested in the sport at one of the most effective levels. It’s also a dollar invested in women’s cycling.
